Omniamid (Cast Nylon Natural)

Overview

Cast Nylon or Omniamid, is a premium-grade polyamide produced through a casting process that yields high molecular weight and superior crystalline structure. This results in a plastic with enhanced mechanical strength, wear resistance and toughness compared to extruded nylon. Its excellent load-bearing properties and long service life make it an ideal choice for large and heavily stressed components. Additionally, Cast Nylon offers good machinability and performs reliably in applications subjected to intermittent impact, sliding contact or abrasive environments.

Key Features

  • Exceptional wear and abrasion resistance
  • High mechanical strength and rigidity
  • Excellent load-bearing capacity
  • Good impact resistance and shock absorption
  • Reduced vibration and noise in operation
  • Easy to machine for large and complex parts
  • Lightweight alternative to metal components
  • Available in large diameter rods and thick sheets

Applications

  • Pulleys and sheaves
  • Gears and sprockets
  • Wear pads and guides
  • Rollers and bushings
  • Support wheels and backing plates
  • Crane and lifting equipment components
  • Marine and industrial structural parts

Weaknesses

  • Moisture absorption can reduce dimensional stability
  • Limited resistance to strong acids and solvents
  • Lower heat resistance compared to Nylon 66
  • Not UV stable unless modified
  • May creep under constant high loads over time
