UHMWPE / PE1000

Overview

UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene), also known as PE1000, is an advanced thermoplastic renowned for its exceptional abrasion resistance, impact toughness and extremely low coefficient of friction. It is highly effective in applications involving aggressive wear, impact loading or frequent sliding contact. With excellent resistance to chemicals and almost zero moisture absorption, UHMWPE is a top choice in industries ranging from food processing and bulk material handling to marine and mechanical engineering. Its self-lubricating properties and long service life make it a reliable solution in high-demand environments.

Key Features

  • Outstanding abrasion resistance (superior to PE300 and PE500)
  • Extremely low coefficient of friction (self-lubricating)
  • Excellent impact resistance, even at low temperatures
  • Excellent chemical resistance to acids, bases and solvents
  • Virtually zero moisture absorption
  • Food contact compliant (natural grade)
  • High energy absorption and noise reduction
  • Good wear and sliding behaviour
  • Lightweight and tough

Applications

  • Hopper and chute liners for bulk materials
  • Food processing equipment parts (cutting boards, guides, rollers)
  • Marine fenders and dock bumpers
  • Conveyor components (wear strips, guide rails, sprockets)
  • Packaging and bottling equipment
  • Star wheels and impact shields
  • Linings for silos, bunkers and hoppers
  • High-wear industrial bearings and bushings

Weaknesses

  • Poor UV resistance unless stabilized (can degrade outdoors)
  • Difficult to bond (requires welding or mechanical fastening)
  • Low heat resistance (softens above 80–90°C)
